Description

New variety for us for 2021 , these stunning hophead Blooms of the Hydrangea ‘Mathide Gutges’ are a  beautiful dark blue colour in acid soil, with fairly early flowering, fading to a greener tinge.

Height: 1.20 m x 80 cm (4 ft x 2.5 ft)
Growth is reasonably fast and flowering period is from July to September
The depth of  colour of the flowers is very dependent on the pH and the composition of the soil. The more the soil is acidic , the more the flowers will be purple to bluish.

Soil can be made more acidic by adding Soil Acidifier, ammonium sulfate or aluminum sulfate. Follow application rates on the packaging. You can also lower pH levels by incorporating naturally acidic organic materials such as conifer needles, sawdust, peat moss and oak leaves. Coffee grounds are also slightly acidic.
