Midnight Purple is a beautifully compact form of Salvia nemerosa, very similar to ‘Caradonna’, except it stays at a more compact height of about 30-40cm. Striking dark purple spike flowers emerge on dark, very upright stems from early summer, adding beautiful contrast with greens and other surrounding flowers. It can greatly compliment other perennials such as Rudbeckia Goldsturm, Astrantia alba or Geum Borsii, for example. If blooms become a bit tired looking towards mid summer, the plant can be pruned back to encourage a second flush of flowers that will see you through the autumn months. An attractive pollinator plant that will be a perfect addition to any border or raised bed.
