Description

This elegant Silky Wisteria is so called for its downy leaflets along the main leaf stem. The long, pinnate leaves make a lovely backdrop for the rich violet buds which open up to pale lilac-purple, highly fragrant flowers in late spring and early summer. Compared to the Chinese Wisteria, the individual flowers of this species are much larger, forming short, somewhat stumpy racemes – but equally showy. After flowering it forms bean-like seed pods which dangle from the branches.
