There’s a particular magic to planting a tree that already has presence. Whilst younger trees hold their promise for the future, a mature specimen transforms a space immediately—bringing established structure, instant character, and that wonderful sense of permanence that makes a garden feel truly complete.
We’re delighted to announce that our lifting season is now underway, and we’re delivering these magnificent trees across the UK. Whether you’re a garden enthusiast looking for that perfect statement tree or a landscape professional working to project deadlines, our current collection of mature rootballed specimens offers something genuinely special.
Spring Showstoppers: Ornamental Cherries
Prunus ‘Snow Goose’
For a tree that creates a moment of pure theatre each spring, Prunus ‘Snow Goose’ is exceptional. Available in 18-20cm girth, this variety produces masses of pristine white blossom that appears to float against the spring sky. Its upright, vase-shaped form makes it ideal for formal settings or as a stunning focal point in a lawn, and it’s wonderfully suited to UK growing conditions.
What makes it special: Beyond the spectacular spring display, Snow Goose offers elegant structure and a manageable size that works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary gardens.
Prunus ‘Tai Haku’ (Great White Cherry)
For those who want drama on a truly impressive scale, Prunus ‘Tai Haku’ is outstanding. We currently stock an exceptional range—from 18-20cm girth specimens right through to magnificent 35-40cm mature trees. The Great White Cherry lives up to its name with some of the largest white cherry blossoms you’ll see—each flower reaching up to 6cm across. Combined with striking coppery-bronze young leaves, the spring display is absolutely breathtaking.
Garden notebook: Our larger specimens (30cm girth and above) offer instant maturity and impact. These are trees that look as though they’ve graced your garden for generations—that’s the beauty of choosing mature.
Architectural Presence: Hornbeam & Lime
Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’ (Fastigiate Hornbeam)
When garden space is limited but you still desire height and presence, Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’ is the perfect solution. We have standard specimens available up to 30-35cm girth—impressive trees with that characteristic upright, columnar habit. Fresh green spring foliage transforms to warm gold in autumn, and the tree retains its dried leaves through winter, offering year-round structure and interest.
Ideal for: Formal avenues, compact urban gardens, or framing doorways and gates where width is restricted but vertical impact is desired.
Tilia cordata ‘Erecta’ (Upright Small-Leaved Lime)
Another superb choice for vertical accent is Tilia cordata ‘Erecta’, available in 20-25cm and 25-30cm girth. This lovely upright lime features dense, heart-shaped foliage and sweetly fragrant summer flowers that are a magnet for pollinators. It’s an excellent selection for UK gardens, tolerating a range of soil types whilst providing elegant structure without dominating smaller spaces.
The Grandeur of Scots Pine
Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine)
Few trees capture the essence of natural British landscape quite like Pinus sylvestris. We’re particularly proud of our current collection—ranging from 3-4 metres through to magnificent 8-10 metre specimens, all with a clear stem to 160cm. These are trees with genuine presence, their characteristic orange-red bark and blue-green needles providing year-round visual interest.
Why choose mature pine? Immediate impact, instant screening capability, and that sense of timeless establishment. Our larger specimens are perfect for estate planting, privacy screening, or creating shelter in exposed locations.
Graceful Movement: Aspen
Populus tremula (Aspen)
Populus tremula has enchanted gardeners for centuries—those distinctive trembling leaves respond to the slightest breeze, bringing movement and gentle sound into the garden. We have specimens available up to 40-45cm girth, offering instant maturity and that beautiful silvery bark. Aspen thrives in UK conditions and delivers stunning golden-yellow autumn colour.
Design tip: Position where you can appreciate the sound and movement of the leaves—perhaps near a terrace or outside a frequently used window.
Spring Drama: Magnolia
Magnolia kobus
For spectacular spring impact, few trees match Magnolia kobus. We have beautiful specimens at 20-25cm girth, standing 3.4-4 metres tall, priced at £600. These mature trees will reward you with abundant white, star-shaped flowers in early spring, often appearing before the foliage emerges. It’s a display that truly heralds the arrival of the growing season.
Worth knowing: At this size and maturity, you’ll enjoy a substantial floral show from your very first spring.
Distinctive Architectural Form
Fagus sylvatica ‘Dawyck Green‘ (Fastigiate Beech)
For something rather more distinctive, Fagus sylvatica ‘Dawyck Green’ offers a striking columnar alternative to traditional beech. Available in 14-16cm girth, this fastigiate form delivers all the beauty of beech—fresh green spring growth, glossy summer foliage, and warm copper autumn tones—in a narrow, upright habit ideal for formal gardens or more compact spaces.
The Classic White Birch
Betula pendula Alba (White Birch)
We’ve experienced exceptional demand for our birch specimens this season—so much so that Betula ‘Zwitsers Glory’ has completely sold out on pre-order. However, we have a wonderful alternative: Betula pendula Alba, slightly whiter than the classic silver birch, available in superbly mature sizes of 35-40cm and 40-45cm girth. These are magnificently mature specimens standing 6 metres plus, with that iconic white bark and graceful, weeping habit that makes birch such an enduring garden favourite.
Why white birch? It’s perfectly suited to UK gardens, thrives in our climate, and offers year-round beauty—from spring catkins to golden autumn colour and striking white bark through winter.
