When you’re growing plants every day, you become ruthless about what works.
At Caragh Nurseries, we’ve spent years producing quality trees, shrubs and plants — and we’ve learned that the biggest difference-maker is often the least glamorous: the compost you start with.
That’s why we’ve created Caragh Nurseries Multi-Purpose Compost (50L) — a grower-led mix refined through practical trials and testing, designed for consistent results in real gardens.
Built for strong roots and steady growth
This premium compost is designed to give plants the best possible start. It supports:
- Strong root development
- Healthy, reliable growth
- Consistent moisture management
It contains a balanced fertiliser blend providing essential nutrients including Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium, plus key micro-nutrients such as Magnesium, Calcium, Manganese, Iron and Zinc.
We’ve also included Humic and Fulvic Acids to support nutrient availability and root development, and the pH is adjusted to optimise nutrient uptake across a wide range of plants.
Moisture management you can feel
If you’ve ever had compost that turns hydrophobic (water runs straight through or sits on top), you’ll know how quickly plants can suffer.
To help keep moisture where plants need it most, we’ve incorporated:
- A wetting agent to support even hydration
- A polymer-based water-retaining granule to help store moisture at the roots
- Natural seaweed extract for added support through the growing season
A clear note on peat (and why we’ve chosen this route)
We know peat is a sensitive topic in the UK — and we don’t take that lightly.
This compost is made using screened and blended Irish sphagnum peat, sourced from responsibly managed peatlands in Ireland. As professional growers, we’ve tested alternatives, and we have not yet found a like-for-like option that matches peat for reliable structure and water retention at the root zone.
So we’ve used the lowest amount possible while still achieving the growing performance we demand — because our priority is giving your plants the best possible start.
