Clematis Star of India

Description

Clematis Star of India was launched in 1867 in England, the blue-violet flowers consist of 4 to 6 petals and are 12 to 14 cm in diameter. Each petal has a small tip and a purple strip. The cream white to bright yellow-coloured stamens form an attractive contrast. The flowering period starts in early June and extends all the way until the beginning of September.

With a growth height of up to 350 cm, Star of India grows quite high so is ideal for climbing up pergolas, trellises and arches. It thrives in sunny and semi-shaded locations

The powerful flower colour can be combined well with white and cream white flowers. Delicate pastel tones of yellow, pink and light blue are also good companions.

In order to maintain the richness of this beautiful, old variety in the long term, Star of India should be cut back every year in the spring, preferably in February between 20 and 50 cm above the ground.
