Mature Trees and Airpots

Earlier this year, in early March we stopped lifting and selling our rootballed and bare-root trees, in most cases, a little earlier than usual as the weathers highs and lows  meant that we have cut slightly short our rootballed season but the good news is that we still had plenty of mature and specimen trees available containers and in airpots.

Airpots have been created in order to improve the quality and development of roots. For plants to thrive they need healthy roots, for these more mature trees  standard pots can restrict roots over time and this seriously compromises the health of the plant, if they are left in pots too long.  In most cases this doesn’t come into play as we move the plants on quite quickly but in the cases of some of our specimen and very large trees, they are less likely to move quickly, they are waiting for that special space.   Where we use Airpots, they actively enhance the plant by making it develop a mass of healthy fibrous roots. This maximises the ability to absorb nutrients and water leading to faster growth.

While we are proud of our production grown in airpots and we can actively see the results of these trees it would be amazing if we could grow much more of our trees this way but the costs involved int his system make it unviable to do so when the trees are younger, the costs involved would mean the prices would be inflated by as much as 75% and would price us out of the market. Hence why you don’t see these on all our trees produced. We are however using this system for more and more of our mature trees as the percentages work our much smaller and the benefits outweigh the costs.

With a lovely selection of trees including Oaks, Ornamental pears, Maples, Limes and some cherries all available in mature sizes we always have lots of stock grown in this way. In evergreen options are most popular are Pines (pinus) and Photinia as well as Olive trees and palm trees in their differing varieties.

Our range of trees is extensive and varied and we have spent the last couple of weeks updating all the newly ready stock as well as updating all the existing stocks.   We do understand as always how hard it can be to pick a tree, especially one of this kind of scale as well as cost without hand picking it but that the benefit of our fully trained team to pick you the best ones for you and send you images and videos to assist you in this process.

We have a wide variety of deciduous trees in sizes up to 5metres tall and girths of 30-35cm.  Evergreen trees in sizes upto around 4-5metres tall and lots of standard tree options, with clear stems as well as feathered trees.

We have one of the widest sections of espalier and pleached trees and the most magnificent specimens in bonsai and cloud pruned trees and topiary art.  Here are just a selection of our trees to choose from
