Description
Aconitum napellus, commonly known as Monkshood, Wolfsbane or Aconite, is a beautiful shade-loving flowering perennial with late summer/autumn flowers, which are not dissimilar to Delphinium. Tall spikes emerge up to 1-1.5m or so in height from July onwards, which produce deep purple-blue hooded flowers. While the flowers are beneficial to bees and other pollinating insects, they are toxic if ingested so handle with care. It is a popular choice for cottage garden and mixed border planting to add height and vibrant contrasting flower colour.
