Ampelopsis brev. ‘Elegans’

£25.00

Description

Ampelopsis brevipedunculata ‘Elegans’ is a climber that deserves to be much better known. It’s striking pink, cream and green variegated leaves look similar to a small hop or grape vine, and contrast well with the pink tendrils by which the plant attaches itself to a trellis or a similar support. After a hot summer, small gem-like turquoise fruits appear.

Grow Ampelopsis brevipedunculata ‘Elegans’ in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade, trained on a trellis, against a wall or over an arch. Hardy,  this plant tolerates most soils but must be kept moist. It can grow in semi-shade or no-shade areas. Since the stems die down to ground level each winter, Ampelopsis brevipedunculata ‘Elegans’ stays compact without the need for pruning. However, it’s a good idea to cut old stems back to the ground in late autumn when they die back naturally.
