Description
Athyrium niponicum Metallicum is a variety of Japanese painted fern with striking silver fronds, which have beautiful purplish tones on the midrib and on the younger foliage. It is a clump-forming deciduous fern, small in size (max height approx 30-45cm), which grows very well in shaded areas. It prefers a sheltered site, making it very suitable for underplanting trees or woodland areas to add a bright pop of colour throughout the growing season. It can also work well in planted containers, providing it is kept in a shaded area.
