Description
Dryopteris atrata, also known as Shaggy Shield Fern, is a tough semi-evergreen with tall dark green fronds. As it matures the frond stems will form distinctive black hairs. Its arching fronds still give it an elegant look, and it thrives best in cool shaded conditions, making it the perfect addition to woodland areas and underplanting trees. In spring, the older foliage can be cut down to ground level, allowing the new fronds to emerge from March/April onwards. Height and spread approx. 90cm.
